How They Met

On November 19, 2004 a mutual friend, Maria, was celebrating her birthday at a local restaurant in Plano, Texas. Kelly and Tracy had never met prior to that celebration, but chatted all evening as if they were old friends. As the party began to break up, some of the group decided to go for drinks and a late movie. They continued to chat and found they had an instant rapport. After the movie, phone numbers were exchanged at the prompting of Kelly's best friend, Jessica, and the rest is history!

Engagement

On November 12th, 2005 , amongst the fields of the San Martino Winery in Rockwall, Texas, Kelly asked Tracy to be his wife. He did so by paying homage to his 3rd generation Irish roots. He recited a prayer used for centuries by the men of rural Ireland to propose:

"Oh Woman, loved by me, mayest thou give me thy heart, they soul and body."

The San Martino Winery is very special to Tracy. They found this winery together, not long after it first opened. Kelly had seen San Martino Winery (click to visit) just a few short weeks before while on his way to visit a Rockwall doctor. Only days before that they had spent a weekend in Grapevine, Texas visiting their local wineries and wishing they were closer. Upon first stopping in, Kelly and Tracy instantly feel in love with the decor, the location and of course the wines.

Kelly would like everyone to believe that from day one he knew that San Martino Winery was the place to propose, but alas it didn't dawn on him how perfect it was until he was reading
Irish Wedding Traditions (by Shannon McManon Lichte). The book described a traditional Irish engagement proposal. He discovered that in rural Ireland prospective grooms would take their beloved to a stream, a mill or a tree and present her with newly churned butter; a luxury in rural Ireland. He would then recite the prayer above. Kelly didn't present Tracy with butter, he didn't think she would immediately understand, especially since she would have no bread.

He did present her with a century old engagement ring that his great grandmother had passed on to his grandmother who in turn had passed it on to her eldest son's wife, Sharon Fox. Kelly had the ring refurbished and a few additional stones added to symbolize their new life together (See "The Rings" for more information.)

They toasted their engagement together with a glass of wonderful Texas wine, and then proceeded to call everyone and give them the exciting news!
